Rock legends Metallica are returning to the Heavy Metal Capital of the World. The band will play a May 22, 2027 set at San Antonio’s Alamodome as part of the seemingly never-ending M72 world tour.

James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, and company first announced the tour back in 2022, though it didn’t have any Alamo City stops. Unlike the original two-night legs that started in 2023, the new 2027 dates will only have single engagements.

The tour will be San Antonio’s first peek at Metallica’s in-the-round stage design, relocating their Snake Pit — the standing-room-only fan area — to center stage. The tour is technically in support of the group’s 2023 album, 72 Seasons, but we’re sure they will enter the night with a few hits like “Enter Sandman.”

All of the new Southwest dates will feature openers from nu-metal brats Limp Bizkit and Swedish death metal giants Avatar.

Fan Club presales go on sale September 21 at 10 am, with additional Citi and Verizon presales launching on September 22. General onsale begins at 10 am on September 25. Further information on enhanced experiences and travel packages can be found online.

As has become custom, a portion of proceeds from every ticket sold will go to the band’s All Within My Hands foundation, which bolsters career and technical education programs in the U.S., combats food insecurity, and donates to worldwide disaster relief efforts.
