Def Comedy legend Bill Bellamy brings 2025 tour to San Antonio

Bill Bellamy will stop by Woodlawn Comedy on June 28.
After debuting in April with a sold-out set from Pauly Shore, new San Antonio comedy club Woodlawn Comedy is bringing more ‘90s nostalgia. On June 28, the newly opened venue will host Bill Bellamy, the Def Comedy Jam legend and beloved MTV VJ. Tickets are on sale now.
The stand-up comedian will perform two sets during the evening, at 7 pm and 10 pm. Admission ranges from $32.48 for a floor seat to $42.22 for a front-row balcony perch.
Bellamy had a meteoric rise from small coastal comedy clubs to being one of the most familiar faces of ‘90s TV. He first rose to prominence on Def Comedy Jam, the HBO series that made Dave Chappelle, Jamie Foxx, Bernie Mac, and D.L. Hughley household names.
During those performances, he made a very important contribution to the American lexicon. Bellamy is credited with coining the phrase “booty call,” the definition of which is surely known by everyone from 12-year-old niblings to octogenarian grandparents.
His act helped land him a gig with MTV during its halcyon Total Request Live years. He was a ubiquitous presence on the network and hosted a variety of shows, including MTV Jams and MTV Beach House.
Later in Bellamy’s career, he took on acting, landing a sitcom, The Bill Bellamy Show with Vivica A. Fox. He also starred in several films like Love Jones, How to Be a Player, and Any Given Sunday.
The Bellamy show is the latest get for Woodlawn Comedy, a new comedy and events venue in the refurbished Woodlawn Theatre in the Deco District. The spot also hosts smaller productions like Monsternomicon, a live Dungeons & Dragons game, and Secrets of the Speakeasy, a close-up magic showcase.
“Woodlawn is proud to host Bill Bellamy’s Top Billin’ Tour,” said owner Shane Quade via text. “Special guest comedians will be on stage; don’t miss it.”
