Here's a treat for those who recall watching Japanese manga series on Cartoon Network: the saga of the legendary silver crystal is coming to San Antonio in 2025 in the form of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Super Live. The tour will stop at San Antonio’s Majestic Theater on Tuesday, March 18.

Following a month-long opening in London, the stage adaptation of the popular comic will tour 18 cities in North America, including five stops in Texas. After technical rehearsals and a preview night in Pittsburgh, the official tour kicks off in Austin, and coincides with South by Southwest. It'll open at Bass Concert Hall on March 15, 2025.

After Austin and San Antonio, the show moves to Sugarland’s Smart Financial Center (March 19), Dallas (April 1), and Midland (April 3).

Originally premiering in Tokyo in August 2018, the musical made its first European stop in Paris in November 2018. It then sold out its debut U.S. appearances in Washington, D.C., and New York in 2019.

The website refers to the experience as “2.5D musical entertainment,” merging the iconic visual style of manga and anime through costumes and light displays with live musical numbers.

Based on the series by Naoko Takeuchi, the story follows Usagi Tsukino, a teenage girl with magical powers who battles the forces of evil alongside her fellow Sailor Guardians. The popular comic started in a girls’ magazine in Japan 1991, later adapted as an anime and live-action television series that has since aired in over 40 countries.

The story has been adapted for the stage by Kaori Miura (book, lyrics, and direction) and Satomi Toma (choreography), with music by Go Sakabe and Kyohei. The play is performed in Japanese with English subtitles.

In a press release, Miura describes the heart of the show as “five girlfriends banding together to fight for what they believe in ... that’s timely.”

“Sailor Moon and her fellow guardians are equipped with powers that help them defeat evil and the characters are imbued with the self-determination to have agency and make their own confident decisions,” Miura continues. “In short, they are the ultimate example of ‘girl power.’”

While exclusive presales will be available in late January through the show’s official fan group, tickets for the North American tour go on sale to the general public at 9 am CT on January 31 at sailormoonsuperlive.com. Ticket prices range from $30-$120, including a VIP package.
