Neighborly new Lagree studio flexes into San Antonio's Southtown

Lagree Onda is flexing its Southtown roots.
San Antonio’s King William neighborhood is about to serve another flex. Lagree Onda, a boutique fitness studio at 1112 S St. Maryʼs St., will celebrate its grand opening on April 11 with a neighborhood block party.
What is Lagree, we couch potatoes may ask? It’s essentially “pilates on steroids,” combining bodybuilding with functional training. The 45-minute classes are done on a specially designed Megaformer machine to maximize muscle tension and endurance in slow, controlled movement.
But founder Christine Chapa, a San Antonio native who lives nearby in Southtown, says the studio isn’t just about feeling the burn.
"Lagree Onda was created to feel different — in the best way," she says in a release. "One of my biggest goals was to create a space that's truly part of the neighborhood — accessible, walkable, and bikeable — where people of all fitness levels feel comfortable coming in and getting stronger."
The studio leans into its Southtown home. A neighborhood-commissioned mural anchors the interior, and the custom mirrors were crafted by Southtown Glass. Chapa's Belgian Malinois mix frequently sniffs around the machines, adding to the familial, come-as-you-are energy.
The grand opening will also have plenty of San Antonio flavor. Local vendors, including Southwest Elixirs, Oh Yeah Cakes, Southtown Cookie Co., and neighboring coffee truck Kulture Kafe, will be on hand with treats and Silver Spur Bottle and Bag will be passing out complimentary mimosas.
Newcomers can take advantage of opening specials. A two-week unlimited pass is available for $49, or San Antonians can lock in a more permanent rate by becoming one of the limited founding members.
