Celebrate Independence Day with these local events in San Antonio
Still looking for something to do on the 4th of July? Well, you're in luck because San Antonio is one of the best cities to celebrate Independence Day. If you're not ready to pop off your own fireworks, check out these local events to get in the Independence Day spirit — no Boston Tea party necessary.
Annual 4th of July Picnic and Parade
If you're an Independence Day traditionalist, the Landa Library's 4th of July event is just the ticket. The event kicks off with a parade, followed by a classic American picnic with all the fixins. Got someone you know who makes a mean apple pie? Tell them to enter the Landa Library's annual 4th of July pie contest. There will also be prizes for parade participants, and one for the baker behind the best pie in the contest. Do you have what it takes?
Boerne Independence Day concert and fireworks show
On July 2nd, Boerne's Main Plaza will host an Independence Day themed concert, with a fireworks show to follow on the 4th at 9:15 pm in Boerne City Park
Carriqui
Why celebrate freedom on one day when you can feast at Carriqui all weekend long? Starting on July 1, Carriqui is hosting a 4th of July celebration complete with a limited-time only Independence Day plate that includes flame-cooked brats with housemade buns, spaetzle, potato salad, and more. On the actual holiday, there will be live music, the Independence Day plate special, and half-priced margaritas all day long — in the name of freedom, of course. The Independence Day plate will be available July 1-2 and the 4th.
Drink the Flag at The Rustic
What's more American than an ice-cold beer? Drink a cold one for a cause at The Rustic's Drink the Flag event, with proceeds going toward The PTSD Foundation of America. Basically how it works is that you pick a beer donated by a local brewery, make a donation, and watch as a beer flag is made from the resulting cans. It's all for a good cause and there's live music too!
Independence Day at the Alamo
Obviously we can't try to steal the Declaration of Independence a la Nicolas Cage in National Treasure, but you can sign a mock copy for fun during The Alamo's Independence Day festivities! In addition to the chance to sign a declaration of independence, guests will be able to watch various historical demonstrations, from leatherwork, mission life, blackpowder firing demonstrations and more. There will also be interactive activities at the event, which is free and open to the public.
Independence Day in Helotes
If you're looking to celebrate on Independence Day Eve, check out the Independence Day celebration in Helotes. The festival will feature local vendors, food, drinks, and fireworks at 9:15 pm.
Seaworld San Antonio and Six Flags
The city's two amusement parks will be hosting their own respective fireworks displays. Six Flags fireworks festivities kick off at 9:15 pm while Seaworld's starts at 9:45 pm.
Woodlawn Lake Park Celebration
The 4th of July celebration at Woodlawn Lake Park is packed with people for a reason: The all day Fourth of July festival features free fitness classes, food (typical 4th of July fare, and of course, chicken on a stick), drinks, live musical entertainment, and more. The H-E-B Fireworks Extravaganza starts right at 9 pm and lasts for twelve minutes.
