Broadway in San Antonio teases Hamilton in new season announcement
Broadway in San Antonio has revealed its upcoming season, including a Hamilton tease.
The 2017-2018 season will feature On Your Feet!, The Color Purple, An American in Paris, The Bodyguard, The King and I, Irving Berlin's White Christmas,The Book of Mormon, and Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella. But the real coup is that the blockbuster musical Hamilton is slated to play the Majestic Theatre the season after.
Hamilton will be part of the 2018-2019 Broadway in San Antonio season. Dates have not been revealed, but "renewing subscribers will be able to guarantee their tickets for its premiere engagement in San Antonio," says Emily Smith, general manager of the Majestic and Charline McCombs Empire Theatres in a release.
The musical will also hit Houston in spring 2018 and Dallas (dates to be announced).
"San Antonio audiences continue to be incredibly generous and supportive of Broadway in San Antonio and it gives us great pride and delight to bring our audiences another amazing season with shows ranging from award-winning musicals to innovative and thought provoking productions," says Smith.
Season seats as well as six- and seven-show packages for 2017-2018 are on sale now; Cinderella is the seventh show option. Here's a preview of what's playing:
The Bodyguard
Kicking off the season is the musical version of the 1992 hit movie The Bodyguard. This production stars Deborah Cox as Rachel Marron. September 19-24, 2017.
The King and I
Before Cinderella comes to town, catch another Rodgers + Hammerstein love story. The King and I will transport you to 1860s Bangkok. October 17-22, 2017.
Irving Berlin's White Christmas
The all-new adaptation of Irving Berlin's original 1954 film arrives just in time for the holidays. December 12-17, 2017.
Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella
The classic fairytale comes to life on the San Antonio stage. Cinderellais the seventh show option for subscribers. January 12-14, 2018.
The Color Purple
Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning book provides the basis for this stirring musical, which mixes jazz, gospel, ragtime, and blues. The Color Purple was the 2016 Tony Award winner for best revival. February 6-11, 2018.
On Your Feet!
This is a "Behind the Music"-esque show about how Emilio and Gloria Estefan triumphed over adversity and tragedy to reach the top of the pop world. Yes, you're probably going to sing along. March 13-18, 2018.
The Book of Mormon
From the creators of South Park comes this hilarious production exploring religion, life, and everything in between. The musical contains explicit language and crude humor. May 1-6, 2018.
An American in Paris
An American in Paris is the Tony Award-winning story about an American soldier, a mysterious French girl, and an indomitable European city. June 12-17, 2018.
