Sweets shop bakes up killer new pastry concept in San Antonio
A sweetheart desserts shop in San Antonio has unwrapped a killer new concept highlighting eclectic takes on traditional French pastries.
The clever sugar slayers behind Cereal Killer Sweets — which specializes in over-the-top, decadent desserts, many of them laced with crunchy breakfast favorites — has opened a new sister concept: C.K.S. Pastry House, a walk-up pastry shop offering even more extraordinary (and visually impressive) whimsical treats.
While the menu offerings and flavors at C.K.S. Pastry House will vary from week to week depending on which fresh and seasonal ingredients the pastry wizards can source and feel like creating, customers can expect both savory and sweet tempting pastry inventions that bring down the house.
Sweet menu highlights include Cereal Milk Dip N Flips, which are oversized, silky choux pastries; Cruffins, aka buttery croissant muffins; stupid good chocolate eclairs; and Neon No-Oreos.
“We’re excited to bring new and unique flavors and pastries back to San Antonio,” says co-owner Megan Morales. “We want to show people that while these are traditional treats and savory pastries, we have a lot of unique flavors. Our Flip N Dip, for example, is a giant choux au craquelin stuffed then dipped in ganache and topped with our favorite cereals and other toppings. We also do multi-colored craquelins, which are really cool.”
C.K.S. Pastry House, located at 1031 Patricia Dr. in the same spot as its Cereal Killer Sweets sister concept, also gives Morales and her team the opportunity to experiment more with savory flavors.
The team began making crobasneks (beef bratwurst and cheese stuffed inside croissant dough), before moving on to creating savory scones with ingredients like tomato jam and tasso ham. From there, they developed a rustic open-faced pie, somewhat similar to a galette, and topped it with all sorts of ingredients, like goat cheese, mascarpone, cheddar, arugula, cream cheese, and ham.
Another drool-inducing C.K.S. Pastry House menu item is a specialty that’s slicing through all the long-held rules of pastry to get to the meat of the matter: pizza croissants. Half pizza, half croissant, these savory little nuggets are sure to become the next Alamo City obsession.
C.K.S. Pastry House’s rotating menu of goodies is available for in-store purchase and pickup Thursday through Saturday. Limited delivery (minimum order of $20 and within a 10-mile radius of the shop) is available on Thursdays and Fridays.
C.K.S. Pastry House also specializes in custom orders for private and special events, or, as they say, when you simply “need a few dozen eclairs on hand in case of emergency.” Because who doesn’t?
“People are heading back into the office now, so what better way to boost company morale than with some beautiful pastries?” says co-owner Lauren Garcia. “Even though we’re still in the middle of a pandemic, people aren’t stopping their lives. There’s never a bad day for some fantastic treats, whether you’re at home or planning something special like a gender reveal.”
