New Pixar Putt mini-golf experience swings into San Antonio this spring
A pair of creative production companies are swinging into San Antonio this spring with a whimsical mini-golf experience that they’re vowing will “kick some serious putt.”
After a four-month run in New York City and its current stint in Houston, Pixar Putt — an open-air mini-golf pop-up featuring characters from iconic Disney and Pixar films — is rolling into the Alamo City for a limited-time event April 1-May 15.
Scheduled to take place at 125 N. Flores St. in downtown San Antonio, Pixar Putt is comprised of 18 interactive mini-golf holes that are inspired by the characters, stories, and icons from popular children’s films, including Toy Story; The Incredibles; Monsters, Inc.; Finding Nemo; Coco; A Bug’s Life; Wall-E; and Inside Out.
The San Antonio pop-up will operate Monday through Thursday 4-10 pm (last entry at 8:30 pm), Friday 3-11 pm (last entry at 9:30 pm), and Saturday and Sunday 9 am-11 pm (last entry at 9:30 pm).
Tickets for the San Antonio Pixar Putt experience are available now on the event website, and advanced booking is encouraged.
Produced by New York-based Rockefeller Productions and Australian company TEG Life Like Touring, Pixar Putt is a family-friendly pop-up that aims to excite San Antonians to infinity and beyond with its colorful, immediately recognizable characters and endless photo ops.
But the producers are quick to drive home that Pixar Putt isn’t just for kids. In fact, it will host Pixar Putt After Dark evening sessions for golfers 18 and older every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of its San Antonio run from 7-10 pm.
Pixar Putt is also available for private and corporate events.
It takes about two hours to complete the Pixar Putt course with four players (the maximum allowed), and Pixar Putt provides everything swingers need, from clubs and golf balls to score cards.
And even though the course is outdoors, the producers are taking steps to ensure they offer a safe experience amid the ongoing pandemic. Though face masks aren’t required, the producers are “strongly encouraging” them.
Pixar Putt’s COVID safety measures include capping the number of players on the course at any given time, employing physical-distancing elements while players are in line or on the course, providing sanitization stations around the site, and sanitizing all golfing equipment between users for every session each day. These measures, which adhere to federal and local guidelines, may be adjusted should guidelines change.
Since the experience takes place downtown, producers are also suggesting some parking options for golfers, including at the nearby Frost Tower Garage, The Rand Garage, and in the 225 W. Travis St. surface parking lot.
