Ritzy San Antonio River Walk hotel reveals $5.7M event space makeover

The Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk is updating its event spaces.
As new Alamo City hotels like Kimpton Santo, Plaza San Antonio, and Hemisfair’s upcoming The Monarch are luring travelers, legacy properties are undergoing some serious glow-ups. The latest, Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk, just revealed a $5.7 million renovation of its meeting and event spaces in a move to entice lucrative conventions and other large-scale gatherings.
“We’re thrilled to embark on a new era of our property by delivering an elevated experience reflecting both the vibrancy of our downtown setting and the dynamic expectations of today’s event planners and attendees,” said Chryssaldo Thomas, General Manager of Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk, in a release.

Although the Hyatt Regency does not yet have a date for the unveiling, work is already well underway. The hotel says it will be ready for its close-up by late summer, which officially ends September 22. Of course, construction is seldom known to be timely, and in South Central Texas, summer stretches well into fall.
Hyatt says the design was inspired by its location along the San Antonio River. Custom Axminster carpets from the United Kingdom, dark wood finishes, textured wallcoverings, and bronze accents are meant to flow seamlessly from one space to the next. Design details like quartz-topped surfaces and layered fixtures bounce light like a pebble skipping in a pond.
Serving the increasingly sophisticated audiovisual needs of conventions and big celebrations, the hotel installed a high-tech sound system, digital signage, and programmable lighting throughout the common areas. Even the nesting buffet tables have built-in power. Upgraded restrooms complete the transformation with shimmering tile and refreshed vanities.

Hyatt Regency is not the only San Antonio hotel making improvements as more properties crowd the market. Mokara Hotel & Spa will introduce its wellness-focused guest room refresh in the fall, Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk just completed a $9 million project, the Wyndham Garden Inn was reborn as Sol Cypress in March, and the newly reminted Signia by Hilton La Cantera Resort & Spa recently spent $40 million on its own room makeover.
Hyatt Regency was a little ahead of the 2025 rush. In June 2022, it completed a $38 million update to its 602 guest rooms and 28 suites with scores of new amenities.
