New Day, New Flight
Low-cost airline celebrates new San Antonio service with $89 fares and 2 nonstop routes
Following a record-breaking year for the San Antonio International Airport, Sun Country Airlines announced on January 8 it is adding Alamo City to its service area. The move comes nonstop flights to two destinations: Minneapolis-St. Paul and Portland, Oregon.
According to a release, the airline is offering flights to the Twin Cities beginning May 23, with weekly flights scheduled on Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Portland service begins on June 5 with flights offered on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The Minneapolis nonstop alternates departure times. On Thursdays and Sundays, the flight leaves San Antonio at 11:25 am and lands in Minneapolis at 2:05 pm. On Fridays and Mondays, the departure and arrival times are 5:15 pm and 7:55 pm, respectively.
The nonstop flight leaves SAIA at 9:15 pm and arrives at the Portland International Airport at 11:15pm. Earlier flights are available via connections to the company’s home base at the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport.
The latter flight provides greater access from South Texas to the hip Pacific Northwest city. Prior to the announcement, the airport considered Portland one of the top five most unserved markets for San Antonio.
Over three years, the airport has added three new air carriers and 35 new flights, including air service to 19 new destinations. Sun Country is now the 12th airline to depart from SAIA. In celebration of the news, Sun Country is offering celebratory one-way fares beginning as low as $89 and can be booked now.
