Gourmet toast chain to open first San Antonio café on Far West Side
Toastique will open its first San Antonio location on the Far West Side.
A new Washington, D.C.-based chain is hoping to be the toast of San Antonio. Toastique will open its first Alamo City location in the Culebra Commons shopping center at 6626 W. Loop 1604 N.
According to the company website, former D1 athlete Brianna Keefe founded the café in 2017 with a desire to offer the quick and healthy snacks she had trouble finding in college. The idea soon took off, and the franchise is now approaching its 100th opening.
At the core of the concept is, well, toasts. There are eight varieties ranging from standbys like smashed avocado and peanut butter and banana to a spicy crab version topped with sriracha aioli, jalapeños, and microgreens. Each of the breads used is matched to the flavor profile, like the rustic Italian bread paired with tomatoes and burrata.
The cafés also offer on-the-go foods like smoothie bowls, grab-and-go salads, and housemade granola bars. And Keefe’s athletic training shows in bites like a salmon power bowl and protein waffles sprinkled with coconut whip, fresh strawberries, bananas, coconut shreds, and cocoa nibs.
The chain is just as concerned about how its food looks as how it tastes. Each of the toasts is served on mini cutting boards and is carefully plated with lemon twists, drizzles, and carefully placed herbs. And all of the foamed coffees come out with a latte art heart.
The inaugural San Antonio outpost will replace the former home of Gong Cha in the Far West Side complex. The bubble tea shop closed in late August with little fanfare, but more are on the way thanks to a massive franchising deal signed in July.
So far, Toastique hasn’t announced similarly ambitious expansion plans in Alamo City, but says it has 226 territories spoken for across the U.S. According to a new Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing, the first store will finish its buildout in January 2027.
