OPENING ALERT
Popular cronut-style doughnut chain launches 2nd San Antonio shop

Parlor Doughnuts are flaky, but don't call them cronuts.
One of the nation’s buzziest doughnut chains has quietly opened a second San Antonio shop — and, no, it’s not Voodoo. Indiana-based Parlor Doughnuts, known for its flaky cronut-like treats, debuted at 3107 TPC Pkwy in mid-August.
First things first. Parlor does not claim to fry up cronuts, the doughnut-croissant hybrid created by famed French pastry chef Dominique Ansel. Instead, it calls its pastries a “proprietary product with layers of buttery dough fried to be crisp on the outside and light/fluffy on the inside.” All of that seems like a long-winded way to describe a cronut, even if the specific lamination processes diverge.
Still, Parlor’s lighter take on the fried sweet has led to a meteoric national rise. After helping launch artisanal roaster Proper Coffee in 2015, founder Darrick Hayden became obsessed with doughnuts while traveling with son Noah’s band, Mission Six. In partnership with friend Josh Tudela, he opened the first Parlor in Evansville, Indiana, in 2019.
The concept was inspired by World War I Doughnut Lassies, volunteers who provided comfort to front-line soldiers. The branding soon took on an Americana theme. The name Parlor is meant to evoke the gracious hospitality of yesteryear.
San Antonio snagged its first Parlor, located in the Boardwalk shopping center at 23535 I-10, #2102, in December 2024, introducing the area to its distinctive style. Although rooted in nostalgia, the flavors are contemporary. Guests can choose from maple bacon, cookies ‘n’ cream, churro, and raspberry pistachio treats.
The shop is also mindful of dietary restrictions, making keto and vegan doughnuts. Parlor also makes treats for pups and savory breakfast dishes like tacos, sandwiches, and toasts.
The second Parlor Doughnut shop is now open seven days a week. Hours are Monday through Friday, 6 am-6 pm; Saturday, 7 am-6 pm; and Sunday, 8 am-5 pm.
