GRILLS AND THRILLS
Norteño Fest rides back into San Antonio with carne asada cookoff

More than 10 local teams will test their grill skills during Norteño Fest.
San Antonio’s Tu Asador is firing up another carne asada throwdown. The popular Mexican steakhouse is bringing back Norteño Fest to the San Antonio Charro Association (6126 Padre Dr) on March 29, promising live music, rodeo events, and sizzling beef around every corner.
During the carne asada and discada cook-off, more than 10 local teams will battle for bragging rights as San Antonio’s ultimate grill masters. Guests get to nibble their way through all the competition entries, then cast votes for their favorite.
The festival also showcases the vibrant heritage of Northern Mexico through live cultural performances and rodeo action, including traditional charreada and jaripeo events featuring high-energy bull riding. Escaramuzas — intricate equestrian dance performances known for their precision and grace — add to the spectacle, while folkloric dance and live music keep the energy flowing throughout the afternoon.
Designed as an all-ages celebration, Norteño Fest makes room for younger guests with a dedicated Kids Zone. Families can expect a petting zoo, face painting, pony rides, and other activities to keep the little ones entertained. For adults, there will be plenty of food and beverage options from top local vendors.
“At Tu Asador, carne asada is more than just food — it’s a tradition that brings people together,” says Regina Gonzalez, cofounder of Tu Asador, in a release. “This competition is a celebration of that passion, where the best grill masters showcase their skills, flavors, and love for the Norteño culture.”
Norteño Fest takes place from 2-7 pm on March 29. Early bird general admission tickets start at $60, while early bird VIP tickets start at $75. Kids 12 and under get in free. Passes, competition sign-ups, and additional details are available online.
