Go-to San Antonio Tex-Mex joint locked out for alleged unpaid rent

Miguelito’s Mexican Grill & Cantina allegedly owes more than $53,000.
Tex-Mex restaurant Miguelito’s Mexican Grill & Cantina has found success in small towns like Carrizo Springs and Crystal City, but big city rents seem to have been the downfall for its sole San Antonio location. After less than two years, the eatery has been locked out of its Park North Shopping Center space for alleged missed payments.
A member of the San Antonio Restaurants Facebook group first spotted the notice taped to Miguelito’s door. CultureMap confirmed the January 14 posting, which accuses the restaurant of owing $53,736 in unpaid rent to its landlord, DPEG Park North. The notice states that “unauthorized entry is strictly prohibited” and warns of “next steps” like lease termination and eviction if payment is not received."
The Landlord will pursue all legal remedies available, including criminal prosecution, against any individual who enters or attempts to enter the space without authorization," read the note.
Miguelito’s made its San Antonio debut in June 2024 in the former home of The Lion & Rose British Restaurant & Pub at 842 Northwest Loop 410 #115. The owners had been running restaurants for 20 years, but in smaller South Texas markets.
The menu was fairly standard with Tex-Mex classics like fajitas, flautas, tacos, and enchiladas. The restaurant got more notice for its colorful frozen margaritas, served in flavors ranging from strawberry to pickle chamoy.
Miguelito’s has not issued a formal statement on whether they plan to reopen the location, but the signs are not promising. The number for the restaurant appears to have been disconnected, and the website is no longer active. Requests for more information via the restaurant’s Instagram and Facebook profiles were not returned at time of publication.
