Buzzy San Antonio pizzeria ditches line for new reservation system

Lovers Pizzeria is ditching counter service.
One of San Antonio’s buzziest restaurants is switching things up. Lovers Pizzeria, at 105 E Ashby Place in Monte Vista, is ditching counter service in favor of a new reservation model.
“This will be the last month of counter service!” wrote Lovers in an Instagram PSA. “Starting May 14th, we will be moving to full service! We will be doing reservations/ limited walk-ins and will have online ordering for to-go pizzas!”
Lovers Pizzeria first debuted in 2023, taking over the former South Side home of Carnitas Lonja. Although owners Dusty Dworak and Victoria Moreno steadily grew a cult following, it wasn’t until a move to Monte Vista in 2025 that the business really took off.
Since then, they’ve won acclaim, like a recent nomination for Best New Restaurant in our 2026 Tastemaker Awards. All the chatter has made scoring a pie a process.
Locals start lining up well before the restaurant’s 4 pm start time to get a taste of one of the limited pizzas made each day. If they hit a few traffic snags, they are faced with the indignity of not being able to eat a viral poblano and pepperoni pie for dinner.
“We truly never expected to have the line like we do, and while it’s been amazing, it’s time for something new,” posted Lovers. “This will hopefully give everyone a better experience at Lovers. A lot more details to come. Lovers 3.0 coming soon.”
