Cheery San Antonio lemonade stand squeezes out of Woodlawn Lake

The Lemon Girls is closing at the end of the April.
A cheery lemonade stand and coffee shop is squeezing out of San Antonio, but its space won’t be vacant for long. Via an Instagram post, the shop The Lemon Girls said its last day of service at 2214 N Zarzamora St. would be April 26.
“We’re beyond grateful for all the love and support over the years — it’s been such a sweet ride, and we’ve loved being part of your daily sips and special moments,” wrote the business.
Prior to opening a permanent shop, owners Maxine And Desiree Cofino were an area farmers' market favorite for their signature lemonade made with guava, lime, and chamoy. They opened their West Side brick-and-mortar in June 2023.
The business owners did not share the reasoning behind their decision, but have been frank in their struggles weathering Alamo City’s rocky hospitality environment. In December 2024, the owners asked for community support, citing rising costs and other challenges.
Days later, the shop was offered a temporary reprieve from the Human Rights Campaign. On December 17, 2024, Lemon Girls received a Queer to Stay grant, a yearly program to support needful businesses that serve the LGBTQIA+ community.
Although The Lemon Girls' journey is wrapping up, the statement said the space has found a new tenant, Retro Sips and Brews. It’s unclear when the shop will first welcome customers.
Though assumably Retro will keep the beverages flowing in Woodlawn, owners and San Antonio transplants Shelley and Sarah Buchman have not divulged details on the concept. They have, however, shared photos of one of their adorable pups.
