SUDDEN SHUTTERS
Northwest San Antonio ramen favorite closing after 7 years

Hero's abruptly announced its closure on March 5.
Maybe it’s the sweltering weather. Mere months after San Antonio lost Nama Ramen & Sushiya, another noodle shop is closing. Hero’s Ramen x Sushi at 13444 West Ave. says it is closing Thursday, March 5.
The Northwest Side restaurant announced the sudden shutter unceremoniously, posting a picture of a closure sign on the door.
“Thank you for the years of support,” it wrote. “It saddens us to say we will be permanently closing on 3/5/2026.”
Hero’s first opened in the Embassy Oaks Shopping Center in the summer of 2019, taking over the former home of Habanero’s Grill. The restaurant focused on traditional preparations of both ramen and sushi and had a small retail section with Japanese snacks and claw games.

Originally, the restaurant was intended to be a second location of Houston’s wildly popular Ramen Bar Ichi, but the owners eventually decided to give the San Antonio location an identity of its own. The name is a tribute to the heroes who make the restaurant work — the kitchen staff.
The spot soon became a local favorite, taking advantage of Alamo City’s 2010s ramen boom. The calm interior, reminiscent of ramen yokocho, or Japan’s ramen alleys, made it a popular date night haunt.
The Instagram post brought out a flurry of diners mourning Hero’s demise, with many commentators saying Hero’s was the most authentic ramen in town.
“OMG, this was literally my favorite restaurant for the last few years,” wrote one fan. “You guys had the best, most authentic, and savory ramen in town. I'm genuinely so upset to see you guys go.”
Hero’s Ramen did not immediately return a request for more information on the closure. We will update this article with any further comments.
