SUDDEN SHUTTERS
Spooky San Antonio horror bar goes dark after less than a year
Haus of Horror appears to have shuttered after a brief run.
Which horror-themed bar will be the final girl of San Antonio nightlife? Haus of Horror at 6740 San Pedro Ave. appears to have closed the coffin lid after less than a year.
The spooky watering hole has been dark on its social media for almost two months, last posting on May 23. Although its Google Business profile states the business is temporarily closed, its phone number is disconnected.
It has also been on the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission delinquent list for several weeks — meaning no distributor can legally sell or deliver alcohol to the establishment until it pays credit debt. A request for clarification via Instagram direct message was not returned.
Haus of Horror opened in late November 2025, taking over the former home of Luna Fine Music Club. The space had a DIY aesthetic, decorated with spoopy touches like plastic skeletons and pillows shaped like ghosts.
It kept the scares to its programming like karaoke and movie nights (the St. Patrick’s Day screening was Leprechaun). Haus of Horror was also a hub of San Antonio’s alt-drag scene, providing the home for Cinemonsters, a spine-tingling weekly showcase.
Horror- and goth-themed bars and nightclubs are not as niche a proposition in San Antonio as they may seem on paper, although they are far from a sure bet. In the past year, gothy reading lounge Libros, Southtown haunt Near Dark, and St. Mary’s Strip “vampire bar” Cream II have all vanished from the local scene.
Still, for those wanting a little more sangre in their sangria, there are still a few like-minded bars going bump in the night. Southtown House of Spirits has found a groove serving playful spirits in vintage glassware, and Last Caress gives shadowy speakeasy vibes at Hi-Tones.
