SUDDEN SHUTTERS
Popular San Antonio birria chain suddenly closes Far West taquería

Guerito's Tacos has shuttered its Far West Side restaurant.
One of San Antonio’s go-to spots for birria tacos is abruptly closing its doors. Guerito’s Tacos at 9218 Potranco Rd. shuttered February 11 after an alleged lease dispute.
“To all customers,” Guerito’s wrote in a social media statement. “Unfortunately, the landlord has wrongfully blindsided us and has decided to no longer continue our lease as of February 11, 2026. While we figure out what’s next for us, please still come support us at our mall locations.”
The restaurant has been around in some form since 2020, when its owners debuted food truck Guerito’s Red Tacos. It quickly gained a following for its Tijuana-style beef mulitas, quesadillas, and quesitacos dipped in a signature consommé rich with adobo, garlic, and cumin.
In June 2023, it launched its first brick-and-mortar, simplifying the name but building up its repertoire to include fusion dishes like pizza and ramen. The aguas frescas selection grew, too, expanding past its original lineup of pineapple, cucumber, and watermelon to flavors like horchata, jamaica, and strawberry.
Since opening its first storefront, Guerito’s has had success in mall food courts, though with a slightly edited menu for on-the-go shoppers. An Ingram Park Mall kiosk opened in August 2025, and a second location is now under construction inside North Star Mall, according to the closure announcement.
A request for more information about the closure was not immediately returned, but its San Antonio fans already have a few ideas for a new storefront. A crowd of commenters chimed in to suggest the taquería open in Dove Creek, Shaenfield Ranch, or most popularly, further west at TX-211 and Potranco Road.
