COMEBACK KID
Godfather's Pizza returns to San Antonio scene after 35 years

Godfather's Pizza is returning to San Antonio.
It turns out you can go home again. After a 35-year absence from San Antonio, nostalgic pizza chain Godfather's Pizza returned to Alamo City on June 23 with a store at 8530 SH 151 Access Rd.
Generation X locals need no introduction to the brand. In the '80s, Godfather's Pizza was a staple of local life. According to the San Antonio Report, the chain once boasted 20 area storefronts. Most were shuttered by the end of the decade as part of a nationwide purge of underperforming locations.
San Antonians of a certain age are likely to remember the pizzeria for its commercials as much as its buffets. The campy ads featured a parody of The Godfather II's Don Fanucci, often surrounded by a trio of musical molls.
Local franchise owners Juan Cuellar and Levi Rodgers brought back the fond memories in full force. The new location was even granted an audience with actor Dale O'Brien, who has played "The Godfather" since 2000.
The menu hasn't changed much in three decades. The pizzas are still built on a chewy pan-style crust and feature toppings like bacon cheeseburger and pepperoni. Taco pie, a Godfather's staple since the '90s, is also on the menu — topping the crust with taco sauce, ground beef, Cheddar, lettuce, and tomatoes.
The pizza joint also serves various sides like Italian monkey bread, potato wedges, salads, wings, and a newfangled cinnamon streusel pie for dessert. A social media post shows the restaurant applied for some sort of alcohol permit, but no bar details are listed online.
The reborn Godfather's Pizza is now open seven days a week at 8530 SH 151 Access Rd. The website lists opening hours of 11 am-9 pm, Sunday through Thursday, and 11 am-10 pm, Saturday and Sunday. Orders can be placed online or by calling (210) 750-2222.
