OPENING ALERT
Downtown hot dog stand takes over kitchen at buzzy San Antonio bar

El Weinecero specializes in Mexican-inspired gourmet hot dogs.
San Antonio’s Gimme Gimme is going to the dogs. The Southtown bar at 803 S. St. Mary’s St. is handing the keys over to El Weinecero for weekend service, creating the late-night hot dog stand’s first brick-and-mortar kitchen operation.
Under the new partnership, El Weinecero will serve its signature hot dogs and an expanded menu at Gimme Gimme Thursday through Sunday. The move gives the Mexican gourmet hot dog brand access to a fully equipped kitchen for the first time, allowing it to grow beyond its famous weinasos (Mexican-inspired gourmet hot dogs).
New menu items include slow-braised roast beef with carrots, potatoes, and gravy; beer-battered onion rings; a smothered chicken sandwich topped with caramelized onions, mushrooms, and mozzarella; and chicken jalapeño bites wrapped in bacon and tossed in ranch dressing.

Fans of Bar Loretta chef Paul Petersen, however, shouldn’t fret. His bar menu will still be available at Gimme Gimme Mondays and Wednesdays, including hits like steaks, smash burgers, and the notorious blue corn crispy dogs.
“Opening inside Gimme Gimme gives us the opportunity to grow creatively and operationally while staying true to our roots,” the El Weinecero team said in a statement. “Southtown is the perfect environment for our next chapter — culture-driven, energetic, and deeply connected to the city’s food and nightlife scene.”
El Weinecero will hard launch its new menu on Friday, January 30, starting at 5 pm, with live music beginning at 10:30 pm. Gimme Gimme hours are Monday, 5 pm–midnight; Wednesday through Friday, 5 pm–2 am; Saturday, 2 pm–2 am; and Sunday, noon–midnight. The bar is closed on Tuesdays.
During its Gimme Gimme residency, El Weinecero will continue operating its downtown hot dog stand at 123 Losoya St.
