SUDDEN SHUTTERS
San Antonio Tex-Mex hidden treasure to shutter after 8 years

Another long-running neighborhood restaurant is bowing out of San Antonio’s dining scene. After 8 years serving the Southwest Side, El Maña Mexican Restaurant at 6606 S. Zarzamora announced its last day of business would be July 26.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share some bittersweet news: after much thought and prayer, I have decided to close the doors of El Maña,” a restaurant rep shared on Facebook. “This has been more than just a restaurant — it’s been a dream come true, a place where I’ve gotten to know so many amazing people, share delicious food, and create memories that I will cherish forever.”
Opened in 2017, El Maña was the type of mom-and-pop restaurant that’s slowly vanishing amid San Antonio’s chain explosion. The decor is a charming jumble of piñatas, religious tchotchkes, and wind chimes, set against a backdrop of candy-colored paint.
The daytime-only joint mainly focused on breakfast tacos and plates like machacado, barbacoa, and migas sold at family-friendly prices. Fans raved about the flour and corn tortillas, made in-house each day. For lunch, it offered classics like chicken Monterrey, chiles rellenos, and carne guisada, with affordable specials like a ceviche tostada plate for $10.99.
The post did not mention the reason for the shutter, but it has posted about past hardships. In April, El Maña was a victim of a credit card dispute scam for two days straight.
Except on July 19, El Maña will be open as usual as it winds down operations. Hours are Monday through Friday, 6 am-2:30 pm, and Saturday, 7 am-2 pm.
The news comes on the heels of the closing of another Tex-Mex favorite. Tiago's Cabo Grille closed on July 8 after 18 years at the rim.
