Summer of sippin
These 8 San Antonio bars are shaking things up at the 2nd annual daiquiri competition on June 26
Here in Alamo City, the daiquiri culture is so strong we've earned the moniker, 'Slam Antonio.' And proving the point this weekend, skilled bartenders from eight local bars and restaurants are preparing to shake things up, quite literally, at the 2nd annual Dashi Daq-Off cocktail competition.
Participating establishments for the Daq-Off include The Moon's Daughters, Box Street Social, DASHI, George's Keep, the Three Star Bar, Pick's Bar, Maeve, and the Ringer Pub.
The competition will be held in a Food Network-style format, with teams of two bartenders from each participating establishment serving up their best daqs in three categories — Speed, Judge's Choice, and People's Choice. The ultimate victors will win two tickets to the Tales of the Cocktail conference in New Orleans, where they'll likely return with heightened daiquiri knowledge so we all win from this scenario obviously.
While the VIP Daq-Off tickets are sadly sold out, general admission still gets you two complimentary daiquiris from the team of your choice, a seat at the general seating area if you purchase the general seating ticket option (there's also standing room only), and food service.
You can purchase a $40 general seating ticket or a $25 standing room only ticket via Eventbrite.
Aside from the People's Choice category, the competitors will be judged by a panel of celebrity judges, including Suzanne Taranto Etheredge, Culinaria's CEO and the co-founder of Third Coast Cocktail Summit. A portion of the proceeds from the Daq-Off will go towards the Third Coast Cocktail Summit's future endeavors.
Other celebrity judges include Olivier “The Wine Guy” Bourgoin, a respected writer and wine broker in the industry, and TV personality Roma Villavicencio, among others.
The second annual Daq-Off will take place on June 26 at Dashi on Thousand Oaks from 6-9 pm. So stay cool this summer and support local bartenders by checking out the second annual Daq-Off.
