New Burger Boy location expands brand west to San Antonio outskirts
San Antonio mini-chain Burger Boy has expanded again, this time to 14541 Potranco Rd. The new spot is open as of December 3 and, according to a news release, marks the 9th in total for Burger Boy. This location also features both dine-in and drive-thru service.
There is already one Burger Boy on Potranco Road, but the new one is almost 10 miles west of Highway 211. It's next to a Chick-fil-A and some auto parts stores, and right across the highway from H-E-B. This is the farthest west the brand has gone so far.
The chain is a local favorite much because it is seen as old-fashioned, be it the straightforward menu, the friendly service (which comes up a lot in online reviews), or even the local history that stretches back to 1955.
Regardless of how much time has passed, San Antonians still like it for the burgers of the present. It even won Best Burger in the San Antonio Current's 2024 rankings. In 2017 it was voted by Business Insider as the third-best burger joint in America.
The burger boy menu branches out a bit from burgers — which are locally sourced and never frozen, according to the release — but every menu item is simple. There are single, double, and triple burgers; corn dogs and hot dogs; grilled cheeses; fish or chicken sandwiches; and some very popular milk shakes. For sides, there are crinkle cut fries...and that's it. With a few other add-ons and drinks, the familiar menu adds to the nostalgia of the brand.
Burger Boy made many college student's day, or even their semester, by moving into a spot on UTSA Boulevard in August of 2024. The original announcement was CultureMap San Antonio's second most-read restaurant story of the year. At the time, it looked like UTSA would be the ninth location, because the new Potranco location was announced sooner. However, it took much longer to finally open.
