A NEW SPIN
San Antonio DJ launches chic new hangout at Broadway food truck park

Hey Hey Social hopes to be open by August.
A popular local deejay is spinning a new tune at the Broadway News food truck park. Hey Hey Social, a new community hub from Edgar Hernandez, hopes to be up and running by August.
The 2202 Broadway space was formerly used for retail concepts like Chictique and Richter Goods. Hernandez is keeping the ‘60s era charm intact while converting the space into a gathering space that will bring much-needed (air-conditioned!) seating for park food trailers like Fratello’s, Aroy Ver, Mila Coffee, Míra Matcha, and MXD Treats.
Hernandez says the space won’t be just a mere dining area. He plans to serve beer and wine in the near future, and — befitting a deejay, the vibe will be defined by electronic music of all genres. Weekend mornings will have some extra oonce-oonce thanks to a partnership with Fratello’s.
“Saturdays and Sundays, the venue will have breakfast,” Hernandez shares via text. “Our goal is to have a fun breakfast [with] mimosas and coffee [and] a deejay.”
Hey Hey Social will also double as a rentable venue. Hernandez said that the space will be available for private events, and he also hopes to host workshops.
Broadway News has been a launching pad for some very well-known San Antonio concepts. In addition to Western shirt company Richter Goods and Mila Coffee, it was the home of Carnitas Don Raúl before it made the leap to brick-and-mortar.
The downtown retail and dining spot is also a familiar stomping ground for the entrepreneur. Hernandez’s wife, Ruby Hernandez, owns the park’s La Casa Frida, an Airstream boutique specializing in handmade items sourced from Mexico.
Although the project is taking a little longer than expected, Hernandez says the project is getting “really close.” Locals can follow Hey Hey Social on Instagram for updates.
