Beloved San Antonio bagel shop spreads schmears to new suburban location

One of San Antonio’s favorite breakfast haunts is breaking new ground, opening its first location outside the city limits. BOSS Bagel plans to debut a Cibolo outpost with a spacious outdoor patio at Cibolo Valley Drive and Borfeld Road later this year.
The owners trumpeted the expansion via social media to promote a crowdfunding campaign. Co-owner Katie Yeargan took fans on a video walkthrough of the space, noting that the new location will be more convenient for suburban fans.
“We know you come from Boerne and New Braunfels and from all over San Antonio, asking us to open in your neighborhood,” said Yeargan in the clip.
The new storefront expands the mini-chain to three San Antonio-area locations. Founders Brannon and Christie Soilea opened the original location in Alamo Heights in 2017 and opened a San Antonio International Airport satellite in 2021. Yeargan and her husband, Erik Yeargan, took over the business in 2022.
BOSS is known for bagels that meld New York and Montreal styles, the latter characterized by their subtle sweetness and for always being fired in a wood oven. The bagels are used in more than a dozen sandwiches ranging from classics like lox to the popular Hangover Cure, a massive stack of eggs, country ham, Cheddar, and loaded baked potato schmear.
BOSS has previously indicated that it is eyeing expansion and is open to franchising requests. Neither the post nor the video stated the opening date, but the walkthrough made it clear that the Yeargans are just getting started with the buildout. The crowdfunding campaign is active through April 30.
