OPENING ALERT
Popular San Antonio barbecue truck opens doors to new brick-and-mortar
3B BBQ is now carving meats on the North Side.
One of San Antonio’s most popular barbecue trucks is now bringing the smoke to the North Side. 3B BBQ, known for its decadent barbecue sundae, opened its first brick-and-mortar at 427 E. Ramsey Rd., the former home of Revolutionary Wings, on Tuesday, November 3.
Co-owner Jason McClain previewed the new spot in an Instagram Reel, using an Oprah sing-song to walk fans through the prep area, dining room, and large patio.
“Thank you for following us on this crazy journey, and we can’t wait to see your happy, smiling faces sitting here,” he said.
Jason and his brothers Maverick McClain and Chris McClain founded the venture in 2018, building on five generations of backyard barbecues. Like most area joints, they dished out piles of brisket, turkey, and ribs by the pound, but soon built a reputation on the siblings’ original creations.
The sundae — smoked meat, barbecue sauce, and a scoop of mac ‘n’ cheese — is served in a plastic cup, mimicking a latte. Rib tips are 3B’s answer to popcorn chicken. And the giant potato, topped with cheese, butter, and even more meat, is smoked instead of baked.
For the immediate future, 3B's brick-and-mortar will be open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 am-3 pm with a limited menu that includes some of customers’ favorite items.
Jason asked customers to give the restaurant grace as it fully trains new team members and juggles an appearance at the San Antonio Auto Show, starting November 6, alongside Thanksgiving catering orders.
After its first service, though, it seems things had gotten calmer. In a follow-up video, Jason showed off a new kitchen display that will streamline service.
“Service is getting faster; every day we’re getting better,” he said. “We just keep putting one foot in front of the other.”
