Hey, Alexa
Amazon delivers fresh new grocery service to San Antonio shoppers
With December’s packed schedule of end-of-year reports and neighborhood holiday parties, it can be difficult for San Antonians to make time for holiday shopping. Soon, locals won't have to thanks to the latest perk offered by Amazon.
Th retail behemoth is launching Amazon Fresh in San Antonio on December 18. The delivery service ships tens of thousands of Amazon’s best sellers directly to customers' doors in as little as an hour.
In addition to offering produce and grocery’s from the nation’s top brands, Fresh also stocks electronics, health and personal care items, home and kitchen goods, and toys. The selection isn’t quite as vast as the main site, however, so don’t expect to have a hankering for Wolverine-like pork shredding claws go instantly fulfilled.
Two-hour delivery is free for Prime members for orders $35 or more and an extra $4.99 to get stocked up within an hour.
Users can also use Amazon's cloud-based voice service, Alexa, to use the service such as, “Alexa, add Totino’s Pizza Rolls to my Amazon Fresh cart.” Whether or not Alexa will judge your buying habits is another matter entirely.
Fresh is the latest grocery delivery service offered by Amazon. After the company acquired Austin-based Whole Foods Market in June 2017, it began offering grocery delivery from the upscale grocer in June 2018. That same month, the Prime Now service began filling up local coolers with free delivery of beer and wine.
