San Antonio banks cozy new downtown cocktail lounge with $5 happy hour

With a distillery, brewery, and restaurant, Maverick Whiskey is already one of San Antonio’s most ambitious hospitality projects. As if that wasn't enough, the downtown hot spot is now adding an intimate lounge complete with a $5 happy hour.
The Lounge at Maverick Whiskey debuted November 26, according to a release. Located on the ground floor of the historic Lockwood National Bank building at 115 Broadway St., the cozy spot offers craft beer, cocktails, and small bites meant to be enjoyed with booze.
The watering hole is the latest addition to the complex, a longtime passion project for owner and local corneal specialist Dr. Kenneth Maverick. The distillery and restaurant opened in July after a painstaking renovation process to restore the history and character of the building.
Though the concept serves approachable classic cocktails, it is a showcase for Maverick’s brewing operations. Craft beers, like the newly released Sam Maverick Belgian stout and a beer inspired by Nashville hot chicken, can be enjoyed alone or in flights.
All can be enjoyed with small bites with punchy flavors that hold up to the drinks. Highlights include smoked redfish canapés served on house whiskey flour focaccia with pico d gallo; creamed spinach and artichoke dip with goat cheese, wilted spinach, artichoke, and tomato tapenade; and a deviled egg flight featuring ingredients such as jalapeño bacon jam and achiote braised pork belly.
With the lounge’s opening comes a brand-new happy hour. From 3-6 pm Tuesday through Friday, guests can enjoy $5 food and beverage specials along with a $5 selection of six seasonal brews. Regular hours are 11 am-10 pm, Tuesday through Thursday, and 11 am-11 pm, Friday and Saturday.
