Hemisfair scoops second San Antonio location of popular ice cream shop
One of Texas' favorite ice cream shops just revealed a major scoop. On July 18, farm-to-cone purveyors Lick Honest Ice Creams announced plans for a new location in the Hemisfair district, projected to open in January 2020.
According to a release, the outpost will be located in the Smith House, the 1840s residence once owned by former San Antonio Mayor Sam Smith. The historic building now anchors The ’68 Apartments and overlooks Yanaguana Garden.
Like the Pearl location, the new Lick will focus on ice cream made from sustainable and local ingredients. That starts with the dairy. Lick exclusively uses milk and cream from McGregor, Texas’ cult Mill-King Market & Creamery.
The herbs, vegetables, cheeses, olive oil, and chocolate are also sourced from area farms and artisans. And Lick bans artificial colors and high fructose corn syrup.
Customers can expect the shop’s roster of everyday flavors like roasted beets and fresh mint; coffee and cream; and goat cheese, thyme, and honey. Lick also offers seasonal varieties, vegan scoops, ice cream sandwiches, and fun toppings like whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles, and house made sauces.
The Hemisfair location is only the second location outside of the company’s home base in Austin. Owners Anthony Sobotik and Chad Palmatier founded Lick in 2011 before opening their first San Antonio shop in the Pearl in 2014.
