San Antonio's newest gourmet dessert shop pops into The Rim
Just in time for what promises to be a scorcher of a summer, Steel City Pops has just opened its second San Antonio location. Located at the Rim at 17619 La Cantera Pkwy., the new Steel City Pops promises to satisfy Alamo City’s insatiable appetite for gourmet, paletas-style popsicles.
Like its predecessor in Southtown, the new storefront offers pops made with fresh, seasonal, all-natural ingredients. Guests can choose between a dairy-based creamy pop, with flavors like chocolate, peach cream, and horchata; or a refreshing vegan-friendly fruity pop like cucumber lime or cantaloupe. After choosing a flavor, popsicle lovers can have the pop dipped, drizzled, or dredged in a variety of add-on toppings.
As a way to differentiate from other chain eateries, Steel City Pops works with local vendors and farmers to source many of its ingredients, and uses those ingredients to create region-specific products.
“We want to be a truly local business no matter where we are,” Steel City says in a release.
The company also engrains itself into the local community by giving back to public servants. Uniformed police, firefighters, or members of the armed forces can beat the heat with a free Steel City pop of their choice.
Started by Jim Watkins and his family in Birmingham, Alabama, Steel City Pops has enjoyed rapid growth since its inception in 2012, and now has 22 stores across four states. In Texas, Steel City Pops locations popping up in Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and Waco, among other cities.
