New French bakery whips up fancy macarons on San Antonio's Northwest Side
The Shops at La Cantera will soon have a sweet new addition. A rep has confirmed to CultureMap that French patisserie Le Macaron will open its first San Antonio location in the upscale shopping center in July.
Founded in 2009 by the mother-daughter team of Rosalie and Audrey Guillem-Saba, the brand braved the Great Recession to become a rapidly growing franchise with 50 stores across the nation.
The Alamo City outpost will be the first in South Texas, though Le Macaron operates stores in the Houston and Dallas area and has eventual plans to expand to other Texas cities, according to a release.
In creating the company, the entrepreneurs wanted to create an authentic French experience in America. The shops are decorated in bright colors that match the treats in the bakery cases and traditional music adds a little je ne sais quoi.
As the name implies, colorful sandwich cookies take center stage. Le Macaron offers 20 varieties ranging from basic flavors like Madagascar vanilla and lemon cream to creative flavors like basil white chocolate, rose, strawberry key lime, and violet cassis.
In addition to the macarons, the brand also offers other classic French baked goods like pain au chocolate, madeleines, and eclairs. Gelato, candies, and savory offerings like croissants round off the menu.
Although the Le Macaron rep was able to confirm the opening, she did not have the exact suite number on file. She did say that company will be opening a full cafe and not one of its popular kiosks.
