San Antonio's dining news is perking up this week with news of two coffee shops. Elsewhere, a new menu at a Mediterranean favorite, new culinary offerings at Frost Bank Tower, and all-you-can-eat sushi keep our eyes wide open.

Openings

The bedroom community of Cibolo is a little less sleepy thanks to new drive-thru caffeine peddler Frenchie Coffee Roasters. The diminutive operation features walk-up and drive-thru windows and an imaginative menu of specialty drinks like maple pecan, toasted coconut, and spicy cayenne mochas. The concept, which celebrated its grand opening at 200 Pfeil Rd. on September 10, combines commerce with altruism with proceeds benefiting animal welfare nonprofit Kanoa Rescue Foundation.

A workmanlike coffee concept is getting the ball rolling on its San Antonio debut. According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) listing, Miami-based Qargo Coffee will complete construction at 12015 Culebra Rd. #101 in May 2025. Although the menu of espresso drinks, pastries, and grab-and-go breakfast fare isn't exactly disruptive, Qargo takes its business casual bona fides seriously, with marketing language stating it "empower[s] the creators to do what they do best." We're sure many LinkedIn profiles will be updated there.

Another sushi spot is coming to the Alamo Ranch area. TDLR records indicate that Takumi Sushi & Bar will be ready to open in late summer 2025. The restaurant shares a name with various eateries in Texas, but it's unclear whether the San Antonio spot is part of a chain. A sign outside the construction site reads that it will all-you-can-eat but does not offer a URL.

Spurs Sports & Entertainment has drafted 12 new eateries to participate in its Culinary Residency Program. The seasonal initiative allows local businesses to showcase signature dishes during home games at the Frost Bank Center. This year's full team includes:

Continuing its streak of good news, The Hayden is also a finalist in a chicken sandwich contest held by bun purveyor Artesano. The fan-voted contest gives foodies a chance to win $10,000 and restaurants the opportunity for $20,000. The Hayden's contribution, dubbed The Wild One, is topped with a pimento cheese-stuffed poblano pepper.

San Antonio Botanical Garden charmer Jardín has revamped its menu. Now focusing on daytime service, the Mediterranean-inspired restaurant emphasizes lighter flavors in dishes like a beet salad with labneh and pistachios, and a shrimp cocktail with harissa. The weekend brunch is also getting a redux with a live deejay during Saturday and Sunday brunch, from 10 am to 2 pm.

Iconic Alamo City burger joint Candy's Old Fashioned is leaving its longtime downtown home. The restaurant announced via social media that it was packing up shop to 115 Plaza De Armas #107. The timeframe of the move is still unknown.
