Best Part of Waking Up
New North San Antonio all-day cafe fills bellies with pastries and more
A new all-day cafe is bellying up to North San Antonio. Full Belly Cafe and Bar is now open in Sonterra Village, offering a menu of "seasonal American cuisine with a global spin."
Full Belly is the brainchild of industry vets Blade Haddock and James Moore, previously of the Pearl's Boiler House Texas Grill & Wine Garden. The duo's newest venture offers breakfast, with brunch, lunch, and dinner service to begin soon.
“With Full Belly, we set out to create a space where every drinking or dining occasion throughout the day is equally as important and elevated as a nice dinner out,” says Moore in a statement.
Diners can expect a menu of classic American fare with a Texas twist, such as pecan pie French toast and eggs Benedict with espresso-rubbed pork belly for breakfast and red-eye gravy and hollandaise on house-made crumpet for lunch.
Along with the dine-in options, Full Belly also offers grab-and-go coffee and pastries crafted by pastry chef Deanna Lansing. Among the goodies teased in the release are Lansing's signature Belly Puffs, "a cross between a croissant and a cream puff filled with mascarpone Chantilly cream." Diners can also snag gourmet doughnuts, breakfast hand pies, and scratch-made breads.
Creating the restaurant's interiors was as ambitious as the menu, and the owners tapped local artists to help create the vision. Inspired by the '60s and '70s, Full Belly's special features include custom wooden shelving along the front wall, hand-blown glass fixtures by Jenny Garcia of Garcia Glass, and a custom mural by local artist deletedtx.
“We intentionally designed different zones within the restaurant that offer varying vibes, so that diners get unique experiences each time they visit depending on where they are seated,” says Haddock in a release. “We’re passionate about supporting the local craftsmen and artist communities and it’s been inspiring to work with so many talented visionaries to bring the space to life.”
In addition to an 80-person dining room, Full Belly also offers an expansive patio with seating for 50.
Full Belly Cafe and Bar is open now at 427 North Loop 1604 West, #202, with limited hours. Beginning February 24, regular hours will be 7 am-3 pm, Monday to Friday for breakfast and lunch; 5-10 pm, Tuesday to Saturday for dinner; and 8 am-4 pm, Saturday and Sunday for brunch. Dinner service and expanded hours are expected to begin in March.
