Fairy-tale Lambermont castle goes on sale near downtown San Antonio
One of San Antonio’s most iconic homes is up for sale. The 16,209-square-foot Lambermont estate at 950 E Grayson St., a stone mansion with turrets and magical old-growth oaks, hit the market in June, promising storybook romance for a lucky new owner.
British architect Alfred Giles, whose work also includes the San Antonio Botanical Garden’s Daniel J. Sullivan Stable and Carriage House, built the house in 1894 for San Antonio politician Edwin H. Terrell. As the story goes, Terrell became fascinated with European castles while serving as the United States Ambassador to Belgium.
The gated home offers plenty of space for entertaining or hosting distinguished guests. Lambermont boasts nine bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and eight fireplaces. Hand-carved details like a plump fin de siècle banister show an American Art Nouveau influence.

The gated castle home also includes private parking and a 2,464-square-foot guest house that was built in 1950. According to listing agent Evan Rayborn of Real Broker LLC, the property has been painstakingly returned to its original stature.
"The current owner spent three years after the purchase of the home restoring it to its original grandeur,” says Rayborn. “They had 20-50 workers there every day for about two years straight. It was quite the endeavor.”
Although the property might be a lot of home for locals who do not employ maids, butlers, and footmen, the former upscale events space is zoned for commercial uses like a bed-and-breakfast, boutique hotel, or private club.
The owners are not disclosing the asking price. Prospects can contact Rayborn for more information. Take a full virtual walkthrough below.
