hi, neighbors!
San Antonio dominion listed among top 20 friendliest American neighborhoods
Homebuyers and families yearn for tight-knit communities with neighbors that will look out for each other, and one San Antonio-area neighborhood is going above and beyond to fulfill that role: the friendly neighborhood of The Dominion.
The Dominion's time in the spotlight comes after a new report from home improvement services website All Star Home named it the No. 20 most friendly American neighborhood. According to the findings, nearly 14 percent of Google reviews for Dominion-based businesses were described as "friendly."
The 1,500-acre, master-planned community is known for its wealthy residents. Among them, at some point, were "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and George Strait, plus other notable folks. It also encompasses the highly manicured Dominion Country Club. (Wait...is this the Good Place?)
According to The Dominion's homeowner's association, the land where the neighborhood now stands was once owned by the last Republic of Texas president, Anson Jones.
"At the turn of the century [the land] was purchased by the family of Adolph Toepperwein," the neighborhood's website says. "Adolph and his wife Elizabeth shared a reputation as the greatest sharp shooting team in history and still hold a place in the Guinness’ Book of Records."
All Star Home also took a deep dive into the friendliest well-known businesses and retailers across the U.S. Several of the friendliest big-box stores in the report have a presence near The Dominion, including The UPS Store, Great Clips, and more.
"Some trends emerged when [digging] into data for ten business types: Coffee shops, dry cleaners, and pharmacies ruled the top 10 friendliest list," the report said. "On the other hand, banks barely made it, and post offices got left off the list entirely."
Elsewhere in the top 50 is San Antonio's Great Northwest neighborhood, which ranked 10 spots behind The Dominion as No. 30. 13.18 percent of reviews for Great Northwest businesses were described of as "friendly," compared to The Dominion's 13.95 percent.
Three other Texas neighborhoods made it into the top 10 friendliest American 'hoods: Kingwood in Houston (No. 2), South Boulevard-Park Row Historic District in Dallas (No. 5), and Fort Worth's South Hills neighborhood (No. 10).
