CultureMap: What inspires you to do what you do?
Gina Candelario: In real estate, my number one passion is coupling buyers to homes. I love figuring out the history of properties and finding people whose personalities match them. I especially love watching the eyes of people as they fall in love with their new home.
CM: What's one piece of advice you'd give to people looking for their dream home?
GC: Listen to their heart and be patient. Hundreds of times, buyers have sat down and told me about their future dream home, only to find that the property they select generally does not match their original description. This isn't because buyers don't know what they want, but properties have souls and they speak to individual buyers in different ways.
CM: And advice to those who are selling?
GC: The No. 1 advice for sellers is to understand your own personal goals. Some sellers have financial goals, meaning they want to achieve a certain price point, while some sellers have time goals, meaning that they are looking to achieve a sale within a certain timeframe. It is rare for a high price and a quick sale to coexist. Once the seller determines their goal, it is very important to ensure that their agent is on the same page as they are.
CM: Sum up San Antonio in three words.
GC: Better than Austin.
CM: What do you consider your "special skill"?
GC: My special skills are a genuine love for people and for homes. I have a true passion for people and making connections. I love the stories that people share and I enjoy the relationships. I also have an undying love for architecture and vintage properties. There is no better feeling than coupling a great family to a beautiful home.
CM: Finish the sentence: "It's a good day when..."
GC: For me, every day is a great day. I couldn't imagine a lifestyle where I wasn't allowed to wake up and do the job that I love doing. Real estate is a seven-day-a-week job, and I appreciate the opportunity to serve the families that I have met throughout my career. Mind you, not every day is perfect, but I wouldn't change a thing because my career is everything I want it to be.
