San Antonio ZIP code declared one of the best places for families
San Antonio families looking for affordable homes and top-notch schools have a great option in their own backyard. That's according to a new report from HomeUnion, which identifies the 30 best places in America for families to live.
The real estate investment firm included the most affordable ZIP code in 30 metro areas where the average school rating was in the 80th percentile or higher. The 78255 ZIP code in the suburb of Cross Mountain ranks No. 15 on the list.
The ZIP has a school rating of 85.2 and a median home price of $317,000, says HomeUnion. Current homes for sale in Cross Mountain, located in the Northside Independent School District, run from the affordable $200,000 range to upwards of $1 million.
Two other Texas submarkets join Cross Mountain on the list. 77450 in Katy, outside of Houston, ranks No. 12, and 78717 in Williamson County, north of Austin, ranks No. 19.
“As home prices continue to increase in many coastal markets, particularly in the western U.S., we are seeing the best opportunities for first-time homebuyers with families in the center of the country," says Steve Hovland, director of research.
The No. 1 market for the second year in a row is Blue Springs, Missouri, near Kansas City.
