San Antonio Big Lots store bites the dust in new round of closings
More stores are on the Big Lots chopping block following its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. The company has announced multiple rounds of closures since September, and in November it's listed another 19 more nationwide, according to court documents obtained by USA Today. That total includes one in San Antonio.
The first wave included 16 stores across Texas and one in San Antonio; the second closed 23 across Texas and one more in San Antonio. The most recent list of closures nixes one San Antonio store at 3715 Colony Dr.
According to the Big Lots website, the closing is still in process. A closing sale offers up to 20 percent with "limited exceptions."
Two more Texas stores are closing in this round:
- Big Lots at 23741 Highway 59 Ste 30 in Porter, Texas
- Big Lots at 1201 West Nasa Parkway in Webster, Texas
However, not all Big Lots stores have closed or will follow suit. Some were auctioned off, and everything else has been sold to Nexus Capital Management LP. Big Lots is framing this restructuring as "a return to [its] roots."
Big Lots opened in 1967 and has become popular thanks to deep discounts on furniture, home goods, and even grocery items.
