San Antonio’s La Cantera lassoes swanky new Western wear shop

Pinto Ranch will opens its first San Antonio store while the rodeo is in full swing.
A luxe Western brand is saddling up at The Shops at La Cantera. Pinto Ranch, the Houston-based brand known for high-end cowboy boots, hats, and Western-inspired apparel, will open its first Alamo City shop on February 16 — just in time to snag a few pieces for the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.
Pinto Ranch first debuted in Houston in 2004, borrowing its name from a historic Wyoming working ranch. Since then, the brand has branched out to Dallas, Las Vegas, and the George Bush Intercontinental Airport in its hometown.
The store specializes in women's and men's western wear, carrying newer and heritage brands like Stetson, Double D Ranch, and Petite Paloma. The men’s side is more conservative with staples like quilted leather puffer vests, pearl snaps, and denim, though there are a few peacock pieces like a fringed and beaded boarskin jacket and Robert Graham’s flamboyantly printed button-ups.

The womenswear takes liberties with the western theme, allowing for gingham prairie dresses, fox fur jackets, Nudie-esque boleros, faux leather miniskirts, and even Gaultier-style mesh slip dresses. All can be gussied up with Pinto’s selection of artisan Western jewelry in sterling silver, gold, turquoise, diamonds, and other precious stones.
“It is a privilege to bring the Pinto Ranch experience to The Shops at La Cantera,” said Shannon Stephenson, director of operations for Pinto Ranch, in a release. “The center is an exceptional fit for our brand as it allows us to share our passion for Western style with a new multicultural audience who appreciates quality, authenticity, and timeless design.”
Pinto Ranch is located next to Nordstrom in the swanky Northwest Side shopping center. Hours are 11 am-8 pm, Monday through Thursday; 11 am-9 pm, Friday and Saturday; and noon-6 pm on Sunday.
