MISSION: POSSIBLE
Tom Cruise to pop up at San Antonio 'Mission Impossible' screenings

How's this for a mission impossible? Hollywood legend Tom Cruise is coming to a few San Antonio theaters on May 22 to promote the eighth chapter of his smash film franchise. Unfortunately, for now, he's keeping the exact locations under wraps.
The Top Gun star, sporting a shaggy haircut, shared news of the visit via Instagram. Still, neither the reel nor the caption gave any solid plans other than a planned stop at Joint Base San Antonio.
"On May 22, I'm coming to the great state of Texas," said Cruise in an Instagram video. "I'll be visiting Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio before stopping by some theaters to see you at some of the first screenings of Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning."
After the whirlwind tour through Alamo City, he'll hop on a plane to Dallas. There, he will try some Texas barbecue before making a few more photo ops. (Tom, if you are reading this, San Antonio has some blockbuster barbecue joints of its own.)
Despite its name, The Final Reckoning is not the concluding chapter of the long-running series. In June 2023, Director Christopher McQuarrie told Fandango that the writing team already has ideas for future installments of Ethan Hunt's saga.
Cruise, for his part, also has no plans of slowing down. Citing Harrison Ford's continued work on the Indiana Jones franchise, he told the Sydney Morning Herald that "he hopes to still be going" into his 80s. The star famously still does most of his own stunts. Crossing fingers that he doesn't break a hip.
Although Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning had its world premiere in Tokyo on May 5 and will screen at the Cannes Film Festival on May 14, its official theatrical release is May 23. Sharp-eyed fans might notice several local theaters have matinee showtimes on May 22.
Paramount Pictures also has a business relationship with AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc., which has one San Antonio location at the Shops of Rivercenter. There's no word on whether Cruise will take a town car or a parachute to his planned Alamo City stops.
