Temple Grandin headlines San Antonio’s animal-friendly film festival

Temple Grandin is the headliner of the 2025 Animalis Fabula Film Festival.
San Antonio's Animalis Fabula Film Festival, dedicated to showcasing stories about animals, is rolling out the red carpet for a true pioneer. Dr. Temple Grandin, world-renowned for her groundbreaking work in humane cattle care, will be honored with a lifetime achievement award during the 2025 festival held November 28 and 29 at Woodlawn Theater, 4522 Fredericksburg Rd #A-90.
The centerpiece of the event, Dr. Temple: An Open Door, will screen at the Woodlawn Theatre on November 29. The documentary is both a cinematic tribute and a call to action, celebrating a life that has reshaped the globe's understanding of animals.
Grandin, who was diagnosed with autism at a young age, has long used her perspective as a strength rather than a limitation. At only 18, she invented the now-famous squeeze machine (or hug box), built initially to relieve her own stress but later embraced by children and adults with autism.
Her most notable contribution to animal welfare is the design of humane livestock handling systems. Her curved chute and corral systems dramatically reduce fear and stress in cattle, and today, more than half of the cattle in the U.S. are handled in facilities based on her designs. The lasting legacy continues to influence global standards.
The festival's theme, An Open Door, couldn't be a better fit for Grandin's work. Before the screening, she'll host a meet-and-greet and book signing, giving fans a chance to connect with one of the most influential minds of our time.
The Animalis Fabula Film Festival, presented by Texas Media Maker Magazine, has not yet revealed this year's film lineup, but is already selling VIP all-access passes for an early bird price of $150. Individual tickets for An Evening with Temple Grandin range from $21.65 to $108.25.
All other tickets for movie blocks, receptions, and workshops go on sale on October 20. The festival is also on the lookout for eight volunteers to help make this unique event happen.
