Santikos plots blockbuster $60M San Antonio theater expansion

The upcoming Santikos will be the 11th and 12th San Antonio area theaters for the chain.
The largest movie theater chain in Alamo City is doubling down on fun with two massive new entertainment centers. Santikos Entertainment says forthcoming Far West and North San Antonio complexes will showcase state-of-the-art technology, serving as a blueprint for future regional growth.
The San Antonio-based company, known for its unique mix of movies, dining, and attractions, is investing more than $60 million into the two new projects. Currently, the chain operates eight theaters in the city limits and a pair of suburban outposts in Cibolo and New Braunfels.
According to a news release, the Trinity Oaks location on US Hwy 281 will boast 10 to 12 premium screens, immersive gaming areas, multiple bowling lanes, and a full-service sports bar with stadium seating, a first for the Santikos brand. It will anchor a quickly rising development with retail pads and an apartment complex, creating a walkable hub for day-to-day life.
The entertainment complex is expected to open in late 2027, but retail pads and other products will be delivered as early as next year. The Santikos location will add a much-needed entertainment option in the rapidly growing area. The closest theater, an Alamo Drafthouse, is four miles away.
“This project marks a significant step in our growth strategy,” said Blake Hastings, CEO of Santikos Entertainment, in a release. “The community has grown into the vision [late founder] John Santikos had for this property, and we are excited to bring a world-class entertainment destination to the area.”
Santikos will build another entertainment complex on roughly 20 acres near Potranco Road and Highway 211. The site will feature luxury auditoriums, premium large-format screens, bowling lanes, an arcade, and fancier food and beverage options. Like Trinity Oaks, this location will also be surrounded by retail pads.
“We are creating destinations that bring people together,” Hastings continues. “This is more than just movies; it is an entertainment experience that will be unmatched.”
Construction timelines for both projects are still being finalized, with more details expected in the coming months. Santikos leaders say the new builds will set the standard for future builds.
