1. Playful San Antonio bar debuts 'secret' back space accessible by token. Another open secret is floating around San Antonio with the launch of Pink Shark's "secret bar." The artsy and well-regarded downtown cocktail bar has expanded into a new room in its existing space, opting to keep this one semi-exclusive by requiring a token — that isn't that hard to get — to open the door.
2. San Antonio chef makes national cooking show final with regional dishes. San Antonio local Jon Hinojosa has made it to the final round of PBS' The Great American Recipe; that means he's one of three home cooks vying for the Season 3 win, and he's doing it through Mexican cuisine. The final episode airs Monday, August 12, on KLRN.
3. McDonald's debuts CosMc's beverage-focused spinoff in San Antonio. Ubiquitous fast-food chain McDonald's finally opened the first San Antonio location of its buzzy new "small-format, beverage-led concept" CosMc's on Thursday, August 8. The beverage spinoff (located at 12360 FM 1957 in San Antonio) will celebrate its grand opening from 10 am to 4 pm on August 10-11 with free samples and exclusive merch for the first 100 customers each day.
4. Patrice Rushen and Lao Tizer Band headline San Antonio's premier jazz fest. In San Antonio, jazz isn't relegated to moody bars and concert halls. The San Antonio Parks Foundation is returning with its free 41st Annual Jazz’SAlive Music Festival on September 27 and 28, and a new announcement brings headliners Patrice Rushen and The Lao Tizer Band into focus.
5. Here's how big San Antonio apartments are for $1,500 a month. A new apartment analysis by RentCafe has confirmed renters living in San Antonio can get a spacious apartment for $1,500 a month. San Antonio renters willing to spend $1,500 can get an apartment spanning an average of 1,012 square feet, which is 151 square feet bigger than the overall average — at any price — in the area.
