1. Downtown San Antonio bar bringing Ferris wheel and whimsy to North Side. What is currently an empty plot of land in far north San Antonio will be transformed into a bar and restaurant with whimsical art displays, a 42-foot curved flower tunnel, and a 52-foot Ferris wheel by next summer. After an October 24 groundbreaking, the plan for Elsewhere Too is officially underway.
2. Trendy mini golf complex swings into downtown San Antonio mall. An ew wave of enthusiasm for the 36-year-old Shops at Rivercenter is injecting the mall with new vibrancy. Australian hospitality company Funlab sees the once-popular shopping destination as a fairway to stateside expansion. The company will open its first San Antonio project, Holey Moley Mini Golf Club, in early December.
3. TV-famous Windcrest home throws 'Killer Klowns' circus for Halloween. A Windcrest home's Christmas decorations earned them national recognition on the ABC competition show The Great Christmas Light Fight. The owners used their earnings from the television show to start something new. They decided to channel all of their energy into Halloween.
4. Hello Kitty Cafe makes stop in San Antonio on 50th anniversary tour. A famous kitty and her friends have drawn crowds when visiting in the Hello Kitty Cafe truck, and they were back again. The truck pulled into North Star Mall on Saturday, October 26, with snacks and merch for Sanrio lovers of all ages.
5. Long-running San Antonio Dairy Queen shutters after more than 20 years. On October 23, the Dairy Queen location at Jackson-Keller Road and West Avenue shuttered without warning. A restaurant regular first reported the move on the San Antonio Restaurants Facebook group, posting a photo of a sign on the door.
