PechaKucha spotlights San Antonio storytellers in new season

San Antonians attend a PechaKucha event at Yanaguana Gardens.
Some of San Antonio’s most fascinating people are grabbing the mic again. PechaKucha opening its 2025 season on March 31 at the Laurie Auditorium at Trinity University (1 Trinity Place), giving notable locals the chance to share their stories, one slide at a time.
For those unfamiliar, PechaKucha is a global arts and culture event format in which each speaker shares 20 images that advance automatically every 20 seconds, for a total presentation time of six minutes and 40 seconds. Since its debut in San Antonio in 2011, the series has become a platform for local creatives, thinkers, and changemakers to share their passions and projects with the community.
Volume 48 coincides with the 50th anniversary of KRTU 91.7 FM, Trinity University’s call letters for jazz and indie music. The station’s content director, Bria Woods, will serve as emcee.
The presenters include:
- Jake Pickard, a clinical psychologist for more than 15 years
- Kate Rogers, a writer and community consultant who most recently served as the President and CEO of the Alamo Trust, where she oversaw the implementation of the $550 million Alamo Plan
- Sandrine Sanos, an award-winning historian & university professor who now runs developmental editing, writing coach, and translation service Les Plumes Rouges
- Tirso Sigg, an artist and entrepreneur whose work bridges sculpture, furniture, and fashion
- Burgin Streetman, a writer and artist, currently pursuing an MFA in fiction at Texas State University after 30 years working in books and publishing, most recently as the assistant director of Trinity University Press
- Michael Thomas, the host of KTRU jazz programs Early Bird Jazz and The Evening Beat
- Sandra Velasquez, CEO and Founder of Nopalera, a modern Mexican beauty and lifestyle brand
The night begins with live music from JJ Lopez, a vinyl disc jockey known for spinning soul and jazz with a disco twist. Attendees will enjoy complimentary bites from CheeseMé Charcuterie Boards, OK Kitchens, Roundabout, Olla Express Coffee, and Tio Pelon’s Salsita. Drinks and cocktails will be available for purchase.
Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased online or at the event. Doors open at 6:30 pm for a welcome reception, with presentations beginning at 7:30 pm.
