New music and comedy series pounces on San Antonio's St. Mary's Strip
Tameca Jones is one of the headliners of La Noche del Tigre.
A new music and comedy series is roaring onto San Antonio’s St. Mary’s Strip. La Noche de Tigre, presented by the Krishna Company, will launch August 20 with a debut show at Paper Tiger, 2410 N St Mary's St.
The kickoff event features both acclaimed Texas acts and buzzy national up-and-comers. Some of Capitol City’s buzziest acts are leading the lineup, including blues guitar phenom Eric Tessmer, Queen of Austin Soul Tameca Jones, Southern hip-hop duo Blackillac, and outlaw troubadour James Bullard.
La Noche will also fly two can’t-miss acts from out of state — Queens nu-gaze outfit Sana Sana, hot off their signing to Republic Records, and Los Angeles rockers Abomic Toms. The latter includes genuine rock royalty. Frontman Willem Wolfe is Billy Idol’s son.
Also making a rebel yell? Two comedy up-and-comers. Nacya Marreiro is known for her sharp observational humor and semi-serious cooking show Mouth Full. Austin stand-up fixture Chris Tellez is a staple of the chuckle circuit with appearances at Moontower Comedy Festival, Oddball Comedy Festival, and Comedy Central’s Colossal Clusterfest.
If all that gives you déjà vu about the Top of the Frost music and comedy series that was set to launch at Frost Bank Tower, you aren’t imagining things. A rep for the organizer says that the team rescheduled the original show after an outpouring of interest, giving the name a little more rawrr to fit the current venue.
The extra capacity means the showcase is being put on at a more affordable price. Tickets now start at $25 online and $35 at the door (some fees apply). Spend the savings on a neck cooler that will make the Texas festival season much, much more bearable.
