Día De Los Muertos
San Antonio suburb gets into the spirit with free, family-friendly Día De Los Muertos celebration
New Braunfels hosts its annual Día De Los Muertos festival on the fourth Saturday of October every year, which means the beloved family-friendly event is coming up this weekend on Saturday, October 22.
Hosted by the New Braunfels Chamber's Hispanic Business Alliance, the event takes place from noon to 10 pm in venues around downtown New Braunfels. Featuring kids activities, live music, dancing, food trucks, arts and crafts, face painters, and more, the free, fan-favorite event is always a hit for the whole family.
Along with a helpful primer on the history and traditions behind Día De Los Muertos, the event website includes a festival map and handy schedule of events. Programming takes place across four main venues: the Modelo Main Stage (located at Seguin Avenue and Coll Street); the kids area (Seguin Avenue and Mill Street); La Plaza (in the main plaza); and the RCS Guitars & Gears (San Antonio Street and Market Street).
Entertainment highlights will include mariachi music, traditional folklorica dancing, Aztex dance performances, and more live music. The Modelo Main Stage will feature Tejano music, while the RCS Guitars & Gears Stage will highlight a variety of local Americana artists.
Since face painting is also an integral part of celebrating Día De Los Muertos, the event will have two dedicated face painting stations with artists from Face Painting San Antonio and SB Body Art to help you get in the spirit of the annual holiday.
Guests can also participate in the 2022 Día De Los Muertos art contest, representing the unique style and imagery of the holiday. The top three winners will receive cash prizes of $200, $100, and $50 for first, second, and third place, respectively.
