Rudolph soars into JW Marriott San Antonio for holiday ice attraction
Ice! will have families shouting out with glee.
An iconic holiday character is flying back to San Antonio's coolest event. Ice!, an immersive holiday experience featuring Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, will return to the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa in late November.
"Having welcomed tens of millions of guests over the years, this beloved holiday tradition continues to capture the spirit of the season, and we are proud to introduce our largest footprint to date, giving even more families the opportunity to experience how our resorts create extraordinary holiday memories," said Johann Krieger, regional vice president of Marriott International, in a release.
Master artisans from Harbin, China will carve two million pounds of ice into 10 holiday scenes pulled from the 1964 stop-motion animated film Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. For those living under a rock, the classic features a reindeer bullied for his bright red nose by the other deer at the North Pole, who runs away with a would-be dentist elf named Hermey, having a variety of adventures (including meeting the Abominable Snowman) before returning to save Christmas from a fog advisory.
Founded in 2001, the Ice! experience has become a nationwide phenomenon. Each year Marriott brings winter wonderlands to snow-deprived lands like the Lone Star State. This year, it is running in eight different hotels, each with a different holiday theme such as Charlie Brown Christmas and The Polar Express. Texans wanting to take an icy tour can visit the Harry Potter-themed experience in Lake Grapevine north of Dallas-Fort Worth at the Gaylord Texan Resort.
In addition to Ice!, W Marriott San Antonio Hill Country will also an array of holiday happenings, including:
- Snow Flow Mountain: A multi-lane tubing hill with real snow
- Snow Ball Build & Blast: An interactive snowball challenge where guests can test their aim
- Mrs. Claus' Christmas Traditions: A festive retelling of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas and holiday sing-alongs
- Gingerbread Decorating Corner: Nutmeg the gingerbread person helps kids decorate festive treats
- Santa Visits: Meet Santa, share holiday wishes and capture festive family photos
- Reindeer Games Scavenger Hunt: Follow clues left by Rudolph to help The Misfit Toys find their way to new homes.
Ice! runs at the Marriott November 23, 2026 to January 3, 2027, daily, and costs $31 - $36 per person. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
