Screen-free kids play space to open first San Antonio location
Hyper Kidz is opening its first San Antonio location.
An upcoming entertainment space will soon give San Antonio kids a reason to unplug. Hyper Kidz, a national franchise known for its analog approach to play, plans to open its first Alamo City location in the Leon Creek Shopping Center at 6808 Huebner Rd.
The company was founded to give kids an engaging alternative to screens. The founders, one of whom is trained as a children’s psychotherapist, say that unstructured play can help “develop and enhance children’s social skills, critical and analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, fine and gross motor skills, and social etiquette.”
At the complex, kids can frolic through dozens of activities on soft foam equipment designed with slow-moving parts. Although the company has not released details on the 14,654-square-foot facility, attractions can include revolving rides, ball pits, slides, balloon houses, and obstacle courses.
Although the space is made for high-energy fun, parents are able to relax knowing the playgrounds meet high safety standards. Hyper Kidz is also split into three age zones, so big kids don’t topple toddlers and younger children.
Each location also includes a parents’ area with comfortable seating and snacks and private rooms for nursing mothers. Party rooms are also available for birthdays and other celebrations.
Although Hyper Kidz has announced the San Antonio location, it has not revealed the official opening date. According to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filings, the renovation is set to be finished in October. A request for more information was not immediately returned.
